Building the Shala: A Living Camp
from $0.00

A three-part series of four-day gatherings on the land, coming together to create, move, and share in the building of a living space.

Together, we will begin the creation of a bamboo shala — a workshop space for future gatherings, practice, and community life. Using natural and local materials, this is a hands-on, collaborative build guided by simplicity, creativity, and connection to the land.

Alongside the building, there is the sharing of practical knowledge and lived wisdom — with a strong focus on bamboo harvesting skills, including selection, cutting, preparation, and transport. Participants will learn how to work with the material from its origin through to its placement in the structure, understanding both its strength and sensitivity.

Each day is woven with rhythm and balance:

  • morning yoga flow

  • shared meals

  • hands-on building (bamboo, mud, natural materials)

  • partner practices and Zenthai together. (Option to book in full Zenthai Sessions at the end of the days, note interest pls)

  • space to rest, swim in our gorgeous river, sing & dance by the fire, connect and be

This offering unfolds across three four-day workshops, each building on the last:

Part I — Foundations
Beginning the shala, working with bamboo harvesting, preparation, layout, and early structural elements. Depending on the group’s flow and capacity, this stage may also include the first raising.

Part II — Structure
Raising and strengthening the frame, continuing the build with deeper skill, confidence, and rhythm.

Part III — Finishing and Opening
Roofing and flooring, refining details, and bringing the shala into use together.

It is a coming together of people, learning through doing, and sharing in the creation of something that will continue to hold life long after the workshops have finished.

No prior experience is needed — only a willingness to participate, learn, and be part of the process.
